The game features an extensive single-player campaign in which you battle the Octarians, who have stolen the Zapfish. During these missions, explore different levels filled with platforming sections, puzzles and enemies. The Wii U GamePad is used to view the map and support the game's controls. With its different weapons and movement abilities, each level encourages a different approach.

Splatoon became particularly well known for its competitive online battles, where teams attempted to cover as much territory as possible with their own ink. These original online services for Wii U have since been discontinued. However, the single-player campaign remains playable and offers a complete adventure with challenging missions and distinctive bosses.
